Over the weekend of 16 to 18 December Cliff Smith guided a 4×4 trail through Letaba Ranch. They had a very good and enjoyable weekend with a number of good animal sightings. The highlight was the pack of 16 Wild dogs seen near the Baderoukwe campsite, on the first afternoon of the trail. Unfortunately they could not get close enough, without scaring off the animals, to get good photographs.
While relaxing at Baderouwe campsite, a herd of Elephants came down for a drink. They came down again during the night.
As always, there was a number of Hippo and Crocodiles to be seen at the Groot and Klein Letaba rivers confluence. This is just the perfect stop for a lunch on day two of the trail.
While relaxing next to the Letaba River, the campsite for the second night, the clients were spoiled with a sighting of a herd of Buffalo coming down for a drink.
The conversations around the campfire was interrupted by some sounds coming from across the river. Under the light of the torches a couple of hippo were seen feeding next to the river.
During the drive down to the Baderoukwe dam, on the last day of the trail, clients were rewarded with good sightings of elephant, Giraffe and Kudu.
While enjoying lunch at the Baderoukwe dam an elephant came down to the water for a drink on this hot December afternoon.
On the drive from the dam to the exit gate, a big number of Impala and also some Waterbuck were spotted.
A good weekend out in the bush, with some wild camping, game viewing and 4×4 driving. The best of all, they did not have to share it with hundreds of other people and vehicles. Only 10 people in four vehicles on 44 000 hectares of Big Five wilderness area in the Letaba ranch sector of the Great Limpopo Transfrontier Park.
